Project:
An article illustrating a detail designed by Hanney & Associates Architects which brings light through a solid masonry wall was published in Architectural Record Magazine. The detail was developed for a new Elementary School located in St. George, Kansas. Plexiglass rods were laid in the mortar bed of a masonry wall at 8" centers, both vertically and horizontally. The rods allow daylight to pass to the interior space. At night it reverses, expressing the light within the room to exterior.

A larger application of the detail was used on a gym designed for Colwich Elementary School. Here 450 rods were placed in the masonry wall to creat a large, pixilated circle.
