Client:
St. George Elementary School; Rockcreek Unified School District 323
Project:
New St. George Elementary in Westmoreland, Kansas was completed in 2008. This school was built to accommodate the rapid growth of the community, due largely in part to the close proximity to Manhattan, Kansas and the Fort Riley Military Base. This 25-classroom school features a unique "pin wheel" design which allows for each wing to have its own identifying components, such as color, shape, and theme.
Our 'lite brite' detail was featured in Architectural Record. This detail consists of plexiglass rods laid in the mortar bed of a masonry wall at 8" centers, both vertically and horizontally. The rods allow daylight to pass to the interior space. At night it reverses, expressing the light within the room to exterior.
